Hartlepool Borough Council required a rugged piece of equipment versatile enough to be used in urban and rural areas, to covertly survey fly tippers. Wireless CCTV supplied the council with a number of the “Wireless All Weather Compact” packages. These include a battery pack for applications where infrastructure is limited and weatherproof housing with military style connectors to make the equipment durable and watertight. The night vision cameras supplied have also enabled Hartlepool to widen their scope of covert operations. password and audit trail system gave the team complete confidence in the security of the footage. Hartlepool has since gone on to use images to prosecute environmental criminals in court.
Craig Thelwell, the Council’s Neighbourhood Action Manager says, “
We feel these high-tech cameras are the way forward. Not only do they allow us to gather high-quality images that can be used as evidence in court, they also act as a deterrent. Would-be fly-tippers, for example, cannot be sure anymore that they aren’t being filmed as they go about their illegal activities”.
