News:
Up to £23.5m is available to police and local authorities to fund initiatives that make public spaces safer for all and to help women and girls feel safer on our streets, including investment in redeployable CCTV to target crime hotspots.
Initially launched to reduce crimes such as car theft and burglary, the first round of funding saw £70m awarded to police and local authorities introduce initiatives to stop offences happening in the first place.
Round two of the funding saw 50 projects across England and Wales awarded a total of £18.4m to go towards measures proven to cut crime, including simple changes to the design of streets such as locked gates around alleyways, increased street lighting and the installation of CCTV.
Round three will have a particular emphasis on cutting the disproportionate number of crimes against women.
