Current Role: Key Account Manager

Why did you do a placement year?

While studying for a BA (Hons) in Business, I quickly realised that I needed some experience on my CV to apply my knowledge from University into the workplace environment. The opportunity of having a year’s worth of experience in an SME was really attractive to me as I knew I would get a greater insight into all of the areas that make a business tick.

Why did you choose WCCTV?

I knew I wanted to get a placement position in an SME as I would likely experience a lot more areas of the overall business and have a broader range of responsibilities. The advertised role was different in a lot of ways from the typical placement opportunities with the larger blue-chip companies I had seen.

WCCTV wanted an employee rather than just a placement student; they wanted to invest in your learning to maximise your output, with a long-term view of inviting you back after your degree to full-time employment. Whilst in the interview, it was clear that my role would carry a large amount of responsibility, which appealed to me.

How did WCCTV support your development?

As soon as my placement year was finished, WCCTV offered me the chance to return after completing my final year of study. This was a massive weight off my shoulders as I didn’t have the stress of worrying about finding a job whilst studying for my final year of exams.

Since completing my degree and returning to WCCTV in 2014, I have worked in several positions to develop a vast array of skills. I have had the opportunity to experience many aspects of the Company, broaden my skills, and find the areas where I excel and work most comfortably. WCCTV has supported my progression and development in all of those roles.

I am now the Northern Account Manager covering the whole of the North of the UK for Public Sector and Police. I have performed exceptionally well in this position, and I put this down to all of the experience gathered since I began my placement.

Would you recommend WCCTV to other students?

WCCTV was an excellent choice for my placement year. It has given me a fantastic insight into how a successful business operates. More importantly, it has allowed me to shape my career into something which I enjoy doing.
