Bournemouth Borough Council's CCTV system is made up of cameras around Bournemouth. Some of these are fixed, while others can zoom in, pan and tilt. All images go to their central CCTV Control Room.
By using CCTV the council aims to:
Help detect crime by providing evidence in criminal proceedings
Prevent and reduce crime, public disorder and anti-social behaviour
Help the police track and capture people suspected of committing a crime
Help identify witnesses
Support for Dorset Police and the Safer and Stronger Communities partnership’s 'Make Dorset Safer' campaign.

Many of these areas were out of the range of the Borough's fibre and COFDM networks so only a wireless transmission system would suffice in these areas.
A major issue for Bournemouth Borough Council was ensuring that whatever solution they identified was capable of integrating into their existing Synectics Synergy 3 video management software.
WCCTV’s Software Development Kit (SDK) allowed Bournemouth Borough Council to integrate WCCTV’s 4G IR Speed Dome cameras into the Synectics Synergy 3 platform, allowing them to deploy the cameras to a number or crime hotspots.
WCCTV’s 4G IR Speed Dome is a Redeployable CCTV system specifically designed to deliver live and recorded high definition images via
As a truly all-in-one surveillance system, it combines an infrared PTZ camera, local recording capacity (up to 4TB) and wireless transmission technology into a single, lightweight unit.
The system is easy to install, easy to maintain, and can be moved to new locations to meet changing requirements.
Live and recorded footage can be accessed via 4G, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to remotely view and download the video via smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC or via integration to an existing control room.
WCCTV SDK allows users to dial into any WCCTV camera via their viewing platform with no disruption to the Synectics System.
The 4G IR Speed Domes have been used for traffic monitoring by the Highways department at Bournemouth Borough Council. The cameras have helped monitor areas where there has been an increase in crime, Anti-Social Behaviour or Fly tipping.
Results have shown a reduction in crime in these areas, especially for issues such as fly-tipping.
“As the WCCTV Domes are integrated into Synectics, we are able to monitor events in real time and also review recordings. They have proved to be very useful for our Highways department for traffic flow monitoring and very effective in reducing crime in areas where we are not able to have fibred or COFDM cameras.
We deployed a camera in one area which was being regularly hit with fly tipping. This has now completely stopped and saved the council an estimated £6,000 to £8,000 in labour and disposal costs.”
