Coventry City Council has utilised CCTV cameras since the late 1980s. CCTV is a vital tool in delivering key Council services and supporting the Police in detecting anti-social behaviour and fighting crime.
The system is an integral element in the Council'stoolbox’ that includes a network of two-way radios, store detectives, ‘face watch etc., which enables the co-ordinated and proactive monitoring of public space.
Ultimately, CCTV systems are vital to delivering the Council’s key core objectives of protecting vulnerable people and making the community feel safer.
Coventry City Council’s Communications Centre has provided security for the council, local businesses, and Coventry people for over 30 years.
The centre was presented with the challenge of balancing the need to future-proof their CCTV systems, manage cost and economies of scale while still providing a high-quality solution for tackling and reducing crime, anti-social behaviour and traffic management.
The CCTV Monitoring and Response Manager specifically wanted to reduce person-hours from operations by utilising a solution that gave them remote access to live and recorded footage.

The system combines an infrared PTZ camera, local recording capacity (up to 4TB) and wireless transmission technology into a single, lightweight unit.
Live and recorded footage can be accessed via 4G, 3G, and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to remotely view and download the video via smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC, or integration to an existing control room.
WCCTV’s experienced and pro-active support team were able to ensure Coventry City Council could take advantage of the recently available 4G network and maximise the capability of the network to deliver high-quality images.
Coventry City Council said:
