Targeted Surveillance, Tangible Results
Case Study: Northumbria Police Cut ASB With WCCTV
In early 2022, Newton Aycliffe faced significant challenges with anti-social behaviour (ASB), leading to parts of the town being labelled as 'no-go' areas.
To address this, Durham Constabulary's Neighbourhood Policing Team deployed five WCCTV 4G IR Mini Dome cameras in key locations.
These redeployable units provided immediate surveillance capabilities, combining infrared PTZ cameras, local recording (up to 4TB), and 4G transmission into a single, easy-to-install solution. Their overt presence acted as a deterrent, while the high-quality footage supported ongoing investigations.
Following a successful trial, the initiative led to a 50% reduction in reported crime rates across the town. The positive impact prompted the purchase of additional cameras, with funding support from the Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership.
“I am delighted to see excellent partnership working and cooperation delivering such positive results. These new cameras will undoubtedly make the communities of Newton Aycliffe safer and more secure.” Joy Allen, Durham Police and Crime Commissioner.
